I'm not cool enought for this list-like approach, so we're going to go with Robinson Crusoe's tried and tested method:

Credit: did you know that if you search for 'Rococo' (as in the art movement) on Google images, the first hit you get is this? It looks to me like a cock with some carrots around it. I think that's what it's supposed to be, actually. It amused me.

Debit: Yesterday MPs voted to extend the detention period to 42 days, which means the police can hold you for six weeks without arrest or trial if you're suspected of terrorism. Then today the shadow Home Secretary, David Davis, resigned in protest. As a commentator on the BBC website pointed out, it's really come to something when one Conservative MP and the House of Lords is all that's protecting our civil liberties.

Credit: I wrote something! I'm afraid it's not due South, but Jeeves and Wooster. It's not quite finished, and it's already over 8k words. When I'm done I'll ask over on [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir for someone willing to give it the once-over, unless of course anyone on my flist is a seekrit Jeeves/Wooster fan and wants to beta read for me?

Debit: you've all gone off to [livejournal.com profile] con_txt and left me! *wails* Only kidding. Have fun! Think of me! Take lots of pictures! *waves you off with white lace hanky*

The title to this post is something my English teacher used to say. I think I ought to use it as a title sometime. His other favourite phrase, which I also love, was "She asked the barman what a euphemism was; so he went over and gave her one."

That artwork doesn't work for me on several (ridiculous) levels, but I think the biggest thing is how feminized the whole thing is. Bright easter colors, curling vines, even cabbages fer crying out loud. I guess male fertility can be symbolized by spring themes as well...but...buh. Also the little baby carrots, and the sense of it being on a plate really makes me think of cannibalism, which clashes with the whole easter/fertility vibe. Bleh.

Yeah, I think it doesn't work for me on about a million different levels, not least the fact that it's a Rococo penis. Just it's very existence made me giggle. When I typed 'Rococo' into Google I was looking for an image of something like Catherine Palace (http://images.teamsugar.com/files/users/1/12234/19_2007/roccoco%201.preview.jpg), y'know? Not...this. It seems like no matter what I search for on Google I always get porn as a result. I'm not sure if that deserves a \o/ or a /o\.

Not all of us. Some of us are hanging out at [livejournal.com profile] out_of_con_txt...putting on our brave faces and blinking back the tears...

Aaaw, you couldn't go either? *hugs you in sympathy* I will definitely come over later and join in with the sociable-ness.

My god, that looks ridiculous (the rococo penis, that is).

And yay for you writing! Secret subliminal message: you should write some due South, as well...

Isn't it bizarre? And it was the first hit, too. I was expecting something a little more, er, conventional.

*absorbs the sekrit subliminal message* I'll try!

It made me lol, although I did spend a couple of minutes going "...is that a penis? No! It can't be. It is!"

Sorry, I'm not offering to beta ('cos, hello, very much not a native speaker here), but as a not so secret Jeeves/Wooster fan, I'm VERY excited about you writing it. :) YAY! \o/

Hee, don't worry, I'm bound to find someone willing to look at it, especially given how tiny the Wodehouse fandom is. And hey, it makes me feel better having you cheerleading! \o/ It might give me the impetus I need to finish the damn thing.

Wow, that is one fugly artistic penis. *marvels*
(The art historian in me cringes, the kitsch lover in me think it might be the most glorious thing ever.)

I not-so-secretly love Jeeves and Wooster, but would make a horrendous beta. I'm sure you'll find someone, though!

I know exactly what you mean. Part of me wants it for my living room so I can amuse visitors, and part of me thinks that if I had to look at it every day I'd go mad. Well, madder.

You're right, there's bound to be someone on [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir who'll take pity on me, or if not then I'll subject you all to it unbeta'd, mwahahahaha! ;-)

Credit 1. *raises eyebrows* Perhaps it's a novel marketing ploy to encourage people to eat their recommended 5 fruit and veg a day...?

Debit 1. 42 days is shocking. Apart from all the obvious civil liberties issues, I think it also makes us as a nation look extremely incompetent - like we couldn't possibly find out anything in less than six weeks.... *sigh*

Credit 2. \o/ For reasons previously explained I am unlikely to offer to beta it for you but congratulations anyway!

Debit 2. Not quite all. Am hoping to dabble in [livejournal.com profile] out_of_con_txt some time over the weekend - may see you there!

Credit 1. Ha ha! Possibly. I'm not sure it would encourage me, though, it doesn't really look very appetising...

Debit 1. I hadn't thought of that, but you're completely right, it's hardly a compliment to our police force. What worries me is that, as David Davis said, the arguments in favour of 42 days can then be applied to 56 days, and then 84, and so one, and so forth. Hel-lo, police state. I'm off to watch Have I Got News For You in a minute, so we'll see what they say about it...

Credit 2. I'm afraid you won't want to read it either, since it's probably going to be R-rated. /o\ I'll have to try a gen piece afterwards. I keep trying to think of a way to cross over J&W with dS, because I am convinced that Fraser learnt his speech patterns from Jeeves, but I can't get the timeline to gel properly.

Debit 2. Yay! I will definitely try to make an appearance.

[Edited because I can't spell :-(]
