I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! What did I miss? Did you blow anything up while I was gone?

I have achieved precisely nothing this fortnight. Well, I moved all my belongins several hundred miles and refrained from killing my parents, but apart from that. Although I did read the last Harry Potter (and was very disappointed that no-one smashed Harry's irritating little face into a wall).

In lieu of the fact that I have nothing interesting to say, I took some pictures of Wales. (Wales, not whales.) Wanna see some pictures? Of course you do!

I was lucky enough to grow up in one of the most beautiful places in Britain. My parents' house is ten minutes walk from the beach. This beach;

And we have heath;

And mountains;

And rivers;

And a gorgeous little town in the mountains called Betws-y-Coed;

The week I stayed with my parents we also went to Bardsey Island. The island has been a destination for pilgrims ever since the early years of Christianity. According to local legend there are twenty thousand saints buried there ('mae una ugain mil o saint, ym mraint y mor a'i genlli'), although since the island's only a mile long it seems unlikely.

Whoops, sorry, that's the boat. This is the island;

It has a lighthouse;

And my personal favourite, the world's most adorable seal;

All together now; aaaaaaaaaaawwwww!

So what have I missed the last two weeks? Recs, people, recs!

*sighs happily*

I'm very glad that I'm going to Barmouth next week, or else these pictures would have made me very homesick....

I'm not from Wales, but I spent every childhood holiday exploring Snowdonia, and North Wales, it feels more like home than anywhere here.

You're going to Barmouth? Oh no, that means we'll just miss each other. Not that I was in Barmouth, but I wasn't far. I'm starting to think we need a big fangirl get-together somewhere in the UK. *plots*

Yeah, I'll definitely be heading in a Betws-y-Coed direction at some point during the week... Hey, where would you take a couple of friends from New Zealand? Considering Wales and New Zealand have such different scenery.... ;P They're historical geeks, so they want to see castles, (Harlech or Conwy) and I was thinking Celtica (http://www.ukactivity.com/central-wales/celtica.htm) would be interesting for them, and Portmeirion.

Its funny you should mention a fangirl get-together... [livejournal.com profile] r_vecchio found this place (http://www.duesouth.co.uk/) the other day, and it got me thinking about having one too.... Although, that's probably not the most practical place to hold one, travelling wise....

If you're looking for historic sites then CADW (http://www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/) have a list of historic monuments with a map. I particularly recommend Chirk Castle if you're anywhere in the area; it has some pretty dark and creepy dungeons to wonder around, and a very nice tea shop. There are some very steep stairs though, it's not really suitable for anyone who's a bit unsteady on their feet.

I just lost a list of recs. I hope I can reconstruct it before my browser crashes again.

But first I must say, Wales is *gorgeous*. I hope I will see it in person someday.

I am also catching up after a couple of weeks on hiatus, so I am sure I've missed a lot.

[livejournal.com profile] arrow00 continues on a hot streak.

Angst and Ray meltdown and comfort in Breakwater (http://arrow00.livejournal.com/10151.html#cutid1)

Flat out hotness in Dancing Blind (http://community.livejournal.com/ds_flashfiction/556690.html#cutid1)

And a great little list meta : Meta: Faces of H/C (http://arrow00.livejournal.com/11058.html#cutid1)

[livejournal.com profile] nos4a2no9 wrote a great follow up to Price of Distance, called Something Borrowed (http://nos4a2no9.livejournal.com/146087.html#cutid1)

[livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds made me read a ghostfic and like it, that temptress! After (http://spuffyduds.livejournal.com/91020.html#cutid1)

There has been an explosion of podfic, which I haven't explored yet, but that's pretty amazing.

[livejournal.com profile] lamentables continues to amaze and entertain me with great photos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lamentables/816670855/) and conversation.

And a kind person pointed me back to my other favorite photo blog today, Inuvik Boot Grille. I love to see pictures of little details in Inuvik. Check out the rhinoceros rock (http://bootgrille.blogspot.com/2007/07/rhinoceros-rock.html) How has this never appeared in a Due South story??

I'm very happy to see you back.

Ah, looking at the photo again, I see that the rock is a mountain in the Yukon...but still..I thnk that this belongs in fic. :) Also (if you weren't already a fan) check out the link back to the first year of his previous Inuvik blog. There are dozens of great pics, pretty, detailed, and often totally mundane. It is like a huge pool of story ideas.

You are not a dork. And Wales is indeed very pretty. I fear the pictures of Bradford are going to be a bit dull in comparison.

Lovely pics! And also familiar because I too was taken to Wales for family holidays throughout my childhood. And Mr Lamentables and I have holidayed in the area as grownups too.

Oh! work has been fun/crazy/interesting.

I have to confess to giggling quite a lot at the puppy/dryer story. After all, puppies are really quite bouncy, I'm sure it was fine.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
