...and my main thought is wow, Mahershala Ali! His acting was just so spot-on I have no words for it. Cottonmouth was easily my favourite character.

I alternately loved and hated him, but that moment on the roof where he said 'There's supposed to be rules to this shit', yes, perfect. And the complicated expression on his face right before he shoots Luke and Connie was marvellous.

Actually, Cottonmouth reminds me a bit of Elektra, in that they're both very willing to do violence, but only to other 'combatants' in their war.

Apparently there's been talk of Mahershala Ali starring in a new Blade film, and I am super excited for that. I didn't know anything about Blade until the Heroes Reborn run, which I still haven't got round to reading, but if Ali is starring in it then I will 100% be watching that.

And speaking of villains, Shades and Mariah were also wonderful, and knowing they're going to be working together is the main thing making me willing to watch S2. I did not expect to come out of this loving all the villains, but there you are. (Diamondback, OTOH, was the most boring villain ever. I was so relieved when he died.)

I actually found it hard to fall in love with Luke, which suprised me. Normally I'm a sucker for characters who are just deep down good, and honourable, and trying to help their community. (Crushing on Benton Fraser was a formative experience for me.) And Luke is all of those things, plus Mike Colter is one of the most gorgeous human beings I have ever seen, and yet. There were definitely moments that really moved me, but it didn't affect me the way I was expecting.

His romance with Claire fell a bit flat, too, even though she was one of my favourite parts of Daredevil. I liked her role in DD as the voice of reason and the moral centre, and Claire as the push Luke needs to be a hero didn't quite work for me the same. I love that she and Luke are so similar in a lot of ways, but maybe they needed more conflict for me to get invested in their relationship.

But, but, it didn't matter because I had a hero to root for, and that was Misty! I was constantly *heart eyes* every time she came on screen. Partly because Simone Missick is so unearthly beautiful, and partly because Misty is just so cool. I loved the scenes where she mentally walks around the crime scene; I've seen that device used with dozens of 'boy genius' detectives and it's boring, but as part of a character who is observant and methodical it made so much sense. I would watch any number of episodes that were just Misty and Priscilla Ridley solving crimes.

Shout out to Bobby Fish for being generally adorable, telling Claire she was too beautiful to ever apologize for anything, and trying to stop everyone from wrecking the barber shop after he just got it fixed, you pack of heathens. I hope we see more of him and Turk playing chess together.
