Snowflake Challenge #10

[community profile] snowflake_challenge -- Challenge #10:

In your own space, rec a fanwork (fic, art, vid, playlist, anything!) you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Queen of Spades by Astolat, Bond/M

If you're even remotely familiar with Bond you'll be able to follow this, even if you've never actually seen a movie. The back-and-forth power struggle between Bond and M captivates me every time.

"If you're trying to seduce me, you're doing a damned poor job of it," she said. "If you're trying to impress me, all the worse." Then she'd packed him off to Kyrgyzstan. After two dreary weeks sitting at a post watching nothing more exciting than some low level drug deals, he'd slipped the traces and gone skiing in the Tien Shan mountains. He went back to London and walked into her office with a portfolio of a dozen contacts he'd established in the smuggling rings that took the drugs back and forth into China. He perched on the edge of her desk and leaned over to hand it to her, with a smile as thoroughly unprofessional as he could manage.

Death Insurance by Nimori, Death/Vetinari

Lord Vetinari courts Death - literally. This is as funny and charming as Pratchett at his most funny and charming, and that's really saying something. All you need to know is that Lord Vetinari is the leader of Ankh-Morpork and a graduate of the Assassin's Guild, and DEATH is the anthropomorfic personification of death.

"We really must stop meeting like this."

INDEED. I AM BEGINNING TO THINK YOU ARE KILLING PEOPLE ON PURPOSE.

"Well," Vetinari said as he pulled his dagger free, "that is the definition of 'murder'."

Undiscovered Country by Thia, Hamlet/Horatio

The ultimate Hamlet fix-it fic. You have to care about the ending of Hamlet and his love for Horatio to really get the full joy out of this one, but if you do you'll love it. It makes me happy-cry every time.

Horatio raised one trembling hand. Hamlet felt warm beneath his fingers, and sweet breath caused his chest to rise and fall beneath Horatio's touch. "It is a dream," he said.

"No. I am no creation of thy brain, but, in soberest truth, thy Hamlet." Hamlet's grip tightened further upon Horatio's arm. "I cannot stay: though I am not confined to some stern prison-house to bear the sufferings of my sins, I have still to learn all the shapes and laws that must guide me, and dare not push beyond. Hold this truth within thy heart, however, as close as thy own soul: I remember thee still."

I've never even seen Supernatural, but I love the way this vid uses clips in a different context to tell an entirely new story. Fake trailers are my favourite kind of vid.

Damn. That Astolat fic is now going on my growing to-be-read list! That's the best part of this specific Snowflake challenge... finding new fic and see what is out there in other fandoms!

Thank you so much for sharing with us!
