My AO3 Hugo Award pin.

I don't own as much fannish merchandise as I would like - usually either I'm in fandoms where it's not much of a thing or I'm too picky about what I want. Or it's too expensive, as is the case with all the beautiful leather-bound books I want to buy.

So this is the start and end of my collection, pretty much. But I'm very proud of it. We won a Hugo! It deserved to be commemorated.

My favourite colour is yellow, but there's not much of it in the house. A quick run around turned up yellow bed sheets and a yellow book (and some bananas, but those didn't seem worth photographing).

Backgammon! This set belongs to my parents and it's older than I am.

The Best Science Fiction of the Year Vol. 5.

So far, some of the stories have been wonderful and some have been dire. I'm going to save the complaining for my books post, but I really enjoyed 'Knit Three, Save Four' by Marie Vibbert and 'By the Warmth of Their Calculus' by Tobias S. Buckell.

Decade by Neil Young. I haven't listened to any new music since 1996. I'm not proud of myself, but it's probably true.

7. the last movie you watched



Stone of Destiny. I watched this for Charlie Cox and I'm not ashamed. (Okay, fine, I am a little bit embarrassed.)

It was great! Based on the true story of a bunch of Scottish students who stole back the Stone of Scone (pronounced 'scoon', to rhyme with 'spoon', confuses me every time). I'm from Wales so I have a lot of sympathy with my fellow Celts and their feelings on independence. It was nice to watch a political film that was uplifiting and hopeful for a change.

8. TV show you're currently watching



Luke Cage Season 2. I'm only on the first episode, but so far so good. I loved the first season.

9. the homescreen, lockscreen, or desktop wallpaper from your device



I change my desktop every few weeks as I get bored, but it's usually something simple with light colours, so it's easier to see my desktop icons (hidden for the screenshot).

The text on the right says "Life is not only a pleasure but a kind of eccentric privilege", which is a quote from GK Chesterton.

Years and years ago, I saw a picture of the Ban Fionn that was in someone's museum. I thought it would've been fun to post a sign: "In case of the end of the world, break glass."

Haha, thank you! That bit of Much Ado where Benedick says, "Come, bid me do anything for thee," and Beatrice is really clear about who she wants murdered has always been a favourite of mine.

I guess we'll let Claudio live, since Hero seems to like him, but he at least deserves a stern talking-to and then a lifetime of doing whatever his wife wants. :P

I used to read the Hyperbole and a Half blog! I've had the book on my wish list for years but haven't gotten it yet, alas. Maybe soon.

The backgammon set made me smile. We didn't play backgammon when I was a kid, I don't think we had a set, but I got into online backgammon when I was in college. This was in the early days of the internet, so if I recall correctly things might have been text-based? I *know* I watched text-based online chess, and I think the backgammon was too. It was a lot of fun.

It's been about 20 years for me, and I am not ashamed. I love Final Fantasy music so much. Twenty years after first hearing it and I'm *STILL* not tired of it.

Text-based backgammon would make sense - it's basically just numbers, and I guess it would be easy to represent on the screen. I should look into online games, actually, because it's hard to find anyone to play against right now. My parents are demons who play at the speed of light.

Also it is amusing that Robert Carlyle is in a movie about stealing the stone, when he did it before in the TV show Hamish MacBeth. Keeping up the fight!

Thank you!! The lipbalm is unfortunately normal size, but it comes in really cool recyclable cardboard packaging.

Oh my god, I used to watch Hamish MacBeth when it aired, but I'd forgotten all about it (and that storyline). I used to have a huge crush on Hamish. :) Robert Carlyle was great, he stole every scene he was in.

Hamish MacBeth is still a favourite, and part of the reason I never got excited about streaming services. I want to watch my 5 episode season, tiny budget, slightly political, smalltown police dramedy from the 1990s! Robert Carlyle was great but I blame/thank that show for introducing me to Shirley Henderson :)

Yellow is such a lovely colour! I hope you enjoy Luke Cage. I've only seen season one, but he's such a cool character and I'm pretty sure he wears yellow!

Of course, how could I have forgotten it's yellow for Luke? :D I'm really enjoying it so far, although I miss Mahershala Ali. I was so sad when they killed off Cottonmouth in S1.

Yes!! Killing him was such a disappointment. Mahershala was so great in the role, too. I thought they were setting him up to be the big bad throughout the series. :/

I thought that's where they were going too! Tragic waste of a great character. I think Mahershala Ali is going to be starring in Blade this year, so fingers crossed for that.

Yes, it's a short story collection! It's volume 5 because they do one every year, and have since...uh, 2015? This is the one from 2020, but the 2021 volume came out a few months ago. It's edited by Neil Clarke, the same guy who does Clarkesworld Magazine.
